All couples will learn some of the basic steps of the particular style of dance, corresponding to your song of choice. We suggest that you choose a song that has meaning to both of you. Keep in mind both your personal preferences and the style of your wedding when choosing the music. If you’re not certain, we can guide towards a song that will that will be fitting and memorable. Depending on the number of lessons you’ve chosen to take, as well as your learning speed, we can incorporate spins, dips and turns. We understand that you may have “butterflies” for your first dance and we’ll guide you from your entrance to your exit so that you can be poised while having fun.
Will you choose an up-tempo Swing or Foxtrot, a spicy Salsa, or a classic Waltz? All music has rhythm and Based on the beat and tempo of the music, we can determine the specific style of dance for it. We will teach you the dance that corresponds to the music you’ve chosen. If you’re interested in a particular style of dance, please let us know. We can let you know if your music will work with the particular dance style, or suggest a spread of songs that would be appropriate for that dance.
Even if you have waited until the last minute…
Not to worry, we have helped many people get prepared for their dance last minute! Contact us, and
we will be happy to work something out for you.
Get more out of your wedding by starting the
excitement early! In addition to private lessons for the wedding couple, we also offer
semi-private group lessons for the wedding party. Even if you can hold your own on the dance
floor, a few lessons with a professional wedding dance instructor can be just the trick to impressing
your guests with your moves. We hope you’ll find dance classes are a great way for family and friends to
develop closer relationships in a warm and upbeat atmosphere.
If possible, get started at least four to six months early. The sooner the better! This allows more time to practice together and build knowledge and confidence, especially if you are a newcomer.
It is the only way to really get comfortable on the dance floor, allowing you to look and feel good. The more you do it, the easier it is. So try to get as much practice as you can between lessons…. even if it’s only for a few minutes. It really will make a big difference.
Decide when you want to do your first dance. Will you be entering the Reception room for the first time, or simply walking onto the floor? Will it be at the beginning of the Reception, after the cake cutting, before or after dinner…?
Tell the Band or DJ when you’ll do your first-dance. Make sure they’ll play the song at the tempo you practiced, or one where you are able to dance comfortably.
Be sure to tell the photographer/ Videographer when you plan to do your First-Dance, and whether there are any special moments or dance moves you particularly want them to capture: the big ballroom dip, the special turn or that BIG ending you worked so hard on! Remember, no matter what happens, don’t worry…. If you forget a step or miss a beat, keep dancing. Relax, breathe, recover, and enjoy an incredible moment together.
Wear comfortable shoes during your lessons that are similar to the ones you will be wearing when you dance on your wedding day. Don’t wear flip-flops or backless shoes: these types of shoes can come off your feet and be difficult to move in. Tennis shoes can be sticky on dance floors and also restrict movements. During your final lessons we highly suggest that you bring the shoes you’ll be dancing in on the day of your wedding, as it helps to avoid any unexpected surprises.
